Why jute needs a thin resin
Jute is a natural fibre, bulkier and more absorbent than glass. A standard laminating resin can leave it partly dry inside, which weakens the moulding. SPR 301 LV is the isophthalic grade the catalogue lists as designed for jute reinforcement, for impregnation of jute and for jute-reinforced composite mouldings.
Nepal and the wider region grow and process jute, which makes jute-reinforced composites a practical interest for local fabricators — but the catalogue’s listing is the basis here, not any claim about finished-part performance.
Reading the published values
At 80–180 cPs at 25 °C, SPR 301 LV is the thinnest grade in the isophthalic family. The catalogue also lists a clear, water-white to light-straw liquid, a long gel time of 40–90+ minutes at 25 °C, a specific gravity of 1.03–1.09 and 42–50% styrene by weight. It is supplied non-accelerated and non-thixotropic, and its reference cure uses less cobalt than the other grades: MEKP 1.5% with cobalt octoate 0.2%, each added separately.
Limitations and alternatives
The catalogue designs and lists this grade for jute. Using it with other reinforcements should be confirmed with a trial, and the long gel time has to be planned into the moulding cycle. For general glass-fibre lay-up, the orthophthalic SPR 201 GPC is the catalogue’s general-purpose starting grade; the comparison guide on GP Clear vs low-viscosity isophthalic resin explains the difference.

Frequently asked questions
Can SPR 301 LV be used with glass fibre?
The catalogue designs and lists it for jute reinforcement. Use with other reinforcements should be confirmed with a trial.
Why is the cobalt dosage lower?
The catalogue’s reference cure for this grade is MEKP 1.5% with cobalt octoate 0.2%. Follow your confirmed process; never mix peroxide and cobalt directly.
How long is the gel time?
The catalogue lists 40–90+ minutes at 25 °C, much longer than the general laminating grades.
