A casting grade in the general-purpose family
SPR 201 CC is the clear casting grade of the orthophthalic (SPR 201) family made by Samrat Poly Resins, India. The catalogue lists it for statues and idols, decorative articles and artefacts, and furniture top coats — work where the resin is poured into a mould and the cured piece is the product, rather than a laminate built up with glass fibre.
The grade exists because casting and laminating ask different things of a resin even when the chemistry is shared. The catalogue gives SPR 201 CC the same typical viscosity, gel time and styrene content as SPR 201 GPC GP Clear Resin; what separates them is the role each is supplied for.
Chemistry: orthophthalic polyester, cured with MEKP and cobalt
An orthophthalic polyester is built on phthalic anhydride and dissolved in styrene, which also takes part in the cure. SPR 201 CC is supplied non-accelerated: the catalogue’s reference cure is MEKP 1.5% with cobalt octoate 0.4%, each added separately during use. The initiator and the accelerator are never mixed with each other directly.
This is the point that separates it from an epoxy casting resin. An epoxy cures by reacting with its own hardener in a set ratio; a polyester cures when a peroxide initiator starts the styrene cross-linking. The two systems are handled, dosed and cured differently, and one cannot stand in for the other without a trial.
Reading the published values
The table above gives the catalogue’s typical values: a clear liquid of 350–450 cPs, a gel time under 8 minutes and 33–40% styrene. They describe the grade as supplied. They do not tell you how thick a single pour can be, how long a casting takes to reach demould strength, or how the finished piece will look after years indoors — those depend on the mould, the section thickness, the filler or pigment used and the workshop conditions.
Selection questions to answer first
What is being cast, and how thick is its thickest section? Is the piece filled with a mineral powder or cast clear? Is it a decorative article, a button, or a slab such as cultured marble — each of which has its own grade in the range? And was your process developed around a polyester or an epoxy system?
If the answers point to buttons, SPR 201 BGR Button Grade Resin is the catalogue’s choice; for engineered quartz and cultured marble, SPR 201 QM (GP Quartz Resin on this site). If your process was built around a two-part epoxy, stay with the epoxy Clear Casting Resin rather than switching chemistry.
Limitations and alternatives
The catalogue values are typical, not batch guarantees, and the resin data says nothing certain about a finished casting’s clarity over time, its strength or its behaviour outdoors. Confirm those with a trial on your own mould and section.
Alternatives within the range are the button grade (SPR 201 BGR), the quartz-marble grade (SPR 201 QM) and, for a different chemistry, the epoxy Clear Casting Resin. The comparison guide on polyester vs epoxy clear casting resin sets the two chemistries side by side.
Source, roles and the Nepal enquiry path
The values on this page are the typical specification printed for SPR 201 CC in the supplier’s 2026 product catalogue. Samrat Poly Resins has since published a Technical Data Sheet for this grade, linked from the product page; its figures and the catalogue’s agree, and the catalogue is the source named beside every figure here.
Samrat Poly Resins, India manufactures the grade and issues its technical information. Samrat FRP Traders is the Nepal supplier and importer and handles enquiries; price, packaging, lead time and stock in Nepal are confirmed on enquiry.

Frequently asked questions
Is SPR 201 CC an epoxy?
No. It is an orthophthalic unsaturated polyester cured with MEKP and cobalt octoate. The Clear Casting Resin page on this site is a separate two-part epoxy product.
Can it be used for buttons?
The catalogue lists a separate grade for buttons, SPR 201 BGR Button Grade Resin. SPR 201 CC is listed for statues, idols, decorative articles and furniture top coats.
Why does it share GP Clear Resin’s values?
The catalogue gives both grades the same typical viscosity, gel time and styrene content. The grades are separated by the role they are supplied for, not by those three numbers.
