GP Yellow Resin for Cooling Tower Manufacturing

Cooling tower casings and internal components need a resin that cures reliably under sustained moisture — GP Yellow Resin uses the same MEKP and cobalt octoate cure system as GP Clear Resin, in a thicker, slightly slower-gelling grade suited to larger panel lay-ups.

Industrial cooling towers run continuously, circulating warm, often chemically-treated water across a structure that never fully dries out — which is why casings, louvers and internal structure are typically built from FRP rather than steel or timber. GP Yellow Resin, Samrat FRP Traders' general-purpose orthophthalic laminating resin, can form that structural laminate using the same MEKP and cobalt octoate cure system as our GP Clear Resin. The two differ mainly in body thickness, gel speed and colour, not in the underlying chemistry or the moisture performance of the cured laminate.

GP Yellow Resin's thicker 450–600 cPs body still wets out reinforcement evenly over large, flat panel surfaces, and its 10–15 minute gel time — longer than GP Clear Resin's under 8 minutes — gives fabricators more working time when several panels are being laminated in the same shift, at the cost of a longer overall production cycle. Where circulating water is dosed with aggressive biocides or scale inhibitors, the correct upgrade is a Vinyl Ester Resin laminate rather than either general-purpose grade — that chemical-resistance decision is the same regardless of whether the general-purpose resin used elsewhere in the tower is GP Yellow or GP Clear.

Process context

Casing panels and structural sections are laminated by hand lay-up over flat or gently profiled moulds: chopped strand mat is placed and wet out with GP Yellow Resin, catalysed by an MEKP hardener and cobalt octoate accelerator, with additional layers and ribbing built up where panels need extra stiffness. Its slower gel time gives laminators more time to work resin fully into each layer before it sets, which can help on larger panels laminated across a longer shift. Louvers and smaller components are often laminated in dedicated moulds for consistent profiles. Once cured at room temperature, panels are trimmed, drilled for assembly, and bolted or bonded together on site to form the complete tower structure.
