UV-Stabilized Resin for Sunlight-Exposed Roof-Light Sheets

Clear roof-light sheets and translucent panels that sit in direct sunlight, made with the UV-stabilized clear grade SPR 201 RL (UV), and when to choose it over the standard roof-light resin.

A clear, UV-stabilized grade for sheets under the sun.

Translucent roof lights let daylight into factories, warehouses and sheds, and by their nature they spend their working life in direct sun. Where a project specifies a UV-stabilized clear grade, the Samrat Poly Resins, India catalogue offers UV-Stabilized Roof Light Resin (SPR 201 RL (UV)), a UV-stabilized clear orthophthalic resin for roof-light sheets exposed to sunlight. It sits beside the standard water-white Roof Light Resin, which already has its own roof-light and skylight sheet guide; this guide covers the sunlight-exposure choice.

What manufacturers build

The catalogue lists three uses: UV-stabilized clear roof-light sheets, sunlight-exposed translucent roofing panels and industrial daylighting applications. Sheet makers use it for the clear or translucent sheets that are fixed between opaque roofing sheets, for skylight panels, and for daylighting strips on industrial and commercial roofs. It is a clear grade, distinct from the yellow sheet-grade resins used for opaque coloured sheets.

Why this material suits the work

SPR 201 RL (UV) is listed as a clear transparent liquid with a viscosity of 200–400 cPs, a gel time of 6.5–10 minutes and 30–40% styrene, supplied non-accelerated. The low viscosity helps it wet out mat quickly on a sheet line, and its UV stabilization is the reason to choose it where the sheet will face direct sunlight. The catalogue does not publish a weathering life or light-transmission figure, so the long-term appearance of a finished sheet depends on the whole construction and should be assessed on your own samples. The decision rule is simple: if the project or buyer specifies a UV-stabilized clear grade, use SPR 201 RL (UV); otherwise the standard Roof Light Resin remains the documented route. See the roof-light vs UV-stabilized comparison and the SPR 201 RL (UV) knowledge hub.

Required resin characteristics

  • A clear, unpigmented resin so light can pass through the finished sheet
  • UV stabilization where the project specifies it for sunlight exposure
  • Low viscosity for fast, even wet-out on a sheet line (200–400 cPs listed)
  • A gel time that suits continuous or table sheet production (6.5–10 minutes listed)
  • A room-temperature cure with MEKP and cobalt octoate, added separately

Process context

Roof-light sheets are commonly made between release films on a flat table or a continuous sheet line: catalysed resin is spread on the lower film, glass mat is laid in and wetted out, the top film is applied, and the sandwich is rolled to remove air and set to the profile before cure. The catalogue reference cure for SPR 201 RL (UV) is MEKP 1.5% with cobalt octoate 0.4%. The peroxide and the cobalt accelerator are added to the resin separately, one after the other with mixing in between; a concentrated peroxide is never mixed directly with cobalt. Because clarity is the point of the product, keep mixing tools and containers clean and avoid entrapped air. The figures are typical catalogue values that describe the grade, not batch guarantees, and dosage for your workshop temperature is settled by trial.

Advantages

  • A UV-stabilized clear grade, listed for roof-light sheets exposed to sunlight
  • Clear transparent liquid, distinct from yellow sheet-grade resins
  • Low listed viscosity of 200–400 cPs for sheet wet-out
  • Supplied non-accelerated, so gel can be tuned to line speed and temperature

Common products

  • Clear roof-light sheets in corrugated and trapezoidal profiles
  • Skylight panels
  • Translucent roofing panels for sheds and warehouses
  • Industrial daylighting strips

Common questions

How is SPR 201 RL (UV) different from Roof Light Resin?

Both are clear orthophthalic resins for roof-light sheets. SPR 201 RL (UV) is catalogued as UV-stabilized and positioned for sheets exposed to sunlight; each product has its own published values. Choose by the project’s specification.

How many years will a sheet made with it last outdoors?

No weathering life is published. Outdoor life depends on the full sheet construction, thickness, installation and local exposure, so it cannot be stated from resin data alone.

Can it be used for coloured opaque sheets?

It is a clear grade meant for light-transmitting sheets. For opaque coloured sheets, the sheet-grade resins are the usual route; ask on enquiry which one fits your line.

What is the reference cure?

MEKP 1.5% and cobalt octoate 0.4%, added separately during use, with a listed gel time of 6.5–10 minutes. Adjust by trial to your line speed and temperature.
