Isophthalic unsaturated polyester resin for FRP work in wet or chemically aggressive service.
About this product
Samrat FRP Traders supplies and imports ISO Polyester Resin for the Nepal market. The product artwork issued by Samrat Poly Resins, India describes it as an isophthalic unsaturated polyester resin for FRP work where chemical resistance, water resistance and long-term durability matter.
The word that does the work here is isophthalic. Unsaturated polyester resins are built on a dibasic acid, and the acid chosen changes how the cured laminate behaves. General-purpose grades use orthophthalic acid, which is economical and fine for dry, lightly loaded work. Isophthalic acid produces a more hydrolysis-resistant backbone, which is why the industry reaches for an ISO grade when a laminate is going to hold water or chemicals for years rather than sit on a shelf.
For a Nepal fabricator the practical decision is usually about service, not price. A GP grade is the sensible default for general lamination; an ISO grade is what you specify when the part is a storage tank, a pipe, a scrubber, a cooling tower component or anything that stays wet. Paying for an ISO backbone on a dry indoor panel rarely earns its cost, and using GP on a chemical tank is the more expensive mistake.

What this means for buyers
Isophthalic vs orthophthalic
ISO and GP grades are not interchangeable. The isophthalic backbone is the reason to choose this resin; if the laminate will not see water or chemicals in service, a general-purpose grade may be the more sensible specification.
Resin only
ISO Polyester Resin is the laminating resin. Reinforcement, catalyst and accelerator are separate items — glass fibre mat, an MEKP hardener and, where the system calls for it, cobalt octoate.

Frequently asked questions
What does the 'ISO' in ISO Polyester Resin mean?
It refers to isophthalic acid, the dibasic acid used to build the resin. It is not a reference to an ISO certification or standard number. Isophthalic grades are generally chosen over orthophthalic general-purpose grades where the cured laminate has to resist water and chemicals.
When should I use ISO rather than a GP resin?
As a general rule, when the finished part stays wet or is exposed to chemicals — storage tanks, pipework, scrubbers, cooling tower components, effluent handling. For dry indoor laminates a general-purpose grade is usually the appropriate choice.
Is it the same as vinyl ester resin?
No. Vinyl ester is a separate chemistry generally positioned above isophthalic polyester for aggressive chemical service. We supply both; which one is appropriate depends on the chemical, the concentration and the temperature, so tell us the service condition when you enquire.
What is it used for?
The supplier product artwork lists chemical storage tanks, FRP pipes and process equipment, marine and boat components, FRP panels and sheet moulding, and cooling tower and corrosion service. Suitability for a specific duty should be confirmed against the supplier's documentation.
Can you send the technical data sheet?
Yes. The supplier Technical Data Sheet, SPR-TDS-IPR (Rev. 01, September 2026), is linked on this page for download and listed in our document library.
